Lift up your heads, O you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD strong and mighty,
the LORD mighty in battle.
He did not merely ask men to turn the other cheek when smitten on the one, to go the second mile when compelled to go one, to give the cloak also when sued at the law and the coat was taken away, to love our enemies and to bless them-- He Himself did these very things. The servants struck Him on one cheek, He turned the other and the soldiers struck Him on that; they compelled Him to go with them one mile--from Gethsemane to the judgment hall--He went with them two--even to Calvary. They took away His coat at the judgment hall and he gave them him seamless robe at the cross; and in the agony of the cruel torture of the cross He prayed for His enemies, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
